Augustus Cullen Law settles multi-million euro case using remote technology
It is fair to say that the Covid-19 crisis and the difficulties involved carrying out day to day work during the current restrictions have presented legal practitioners, as much as any other businesses, with an enormous challenge.
In the face of this challenge however, we at Augustus Cullen Law are making every effort to provide advice to our clients and to progress their cases as efficiently as possible. In that regard, we were extremely pleased to manage to successfully mediate a multi-million euro case earlier this month.
The case, which settled for a damages amount of €3.5m, was successfully mediated on the 1st of April last. Due to the current restrictions, it was of course not possible to have a normal Mediation with all parties present in one location and where communication and discussion is much easier than it is at the present time.
However, despite these challenges, using the technology available to us including Zoom and the more traditional conference call, we found it possible to successfully resolve this high value and extremely complex case, which involved several Defendants and where numerous issues in the case were in dispute.
The Mediation in this matter, where we represented a vulnerable client, lasted some eleven hours during which all of the parties used whatever technology was available to them to try to settle the case, notwithstanding the difficulties posed by the current Covid-19 restrictions.
We at ACL were extremely pleased to be able to achieve this result for our client. We believe that it goes to show that given the ability to work remotely and the technology available to us in 2020, even in the very different working environment in which we currently find ourselves, it is indeed possible to continue to deliver a top quality service to our clients and to carry on business (almost) as usual!
