The deceased was a man in his early 60s who was admitted to the Emergency Department of his local regional hospital suffering from a severe epistaxis (nose bleed). He had undergone an elective procedure to the soft lining of his nose (sub mucous diathermy to the inferior turbinates) some 2 weeks previously.
Between the 8th and 10th of November, a new European Alliance was formed on behalf of those children and adults who have sustained Narcolepsy and other debilitating injuries as a result of the human swine flu vaccine, Pandemrix. Augustus Cullen Law attended on behalf of those affected in Ireland and addressed the Alliance on the legal remedies currently being pursued in this Country

The Plaintiff, a woman in her 30s, suffered sudden onset of abdominal pain in her upper right quadrant associated with vomiting. She called her local out of hours GP service who directed her to attend the Emergency Department of her local regional hospital. The Plaintiff duly attended the Hospital where she was triaged and admitted under the care of the surgical team. She was noted to have severe abdominal pain, vomiting and raised white cell count and raised CRP levels.

Augustus Cullen Law represent a significant number of those diagnosed with Narcolepsy following receipt of the Pandemrix vaccine in potential litigation against the State and the Manufacturers of the vaccine. As a result of their involvement, they will be addressing an International Conference in Stockholm on the 8th and 9th November where the progress of such litigation in each country will be assessed, and the experiences of those affected discussed.

Garda Sergeant Tania McCabe died in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, as a result of sepsis, on the 9th March 2007. Augustus Cullen Law acted on behalf of her husband and family in the subsequent legal proceedings. The Health Service Executive conducted an inquiry into the circumstances of her death, and produced a final report on the 27th March 2008.
