Geraldine Keehan, head of the Childcare department, was invited to speak at the Barnardos Conference held on the 29th May 2013 in Dublin entitled ‘What about me? Barnardos’ Vision for Family Law Reform’. Geraldine joined an esteemed panel of speakers to include Fergus Finlay, CEO of Barnardos, and Barnardos’ Head of Advocacy, Catherine Joyce.

Augustus Cullen Law achieve a substantial damages award for 7 year old boy who suffered birth asphyxia as result of negligence by the HSE and a consultant obstetrician during the course of his mother's labour.

On the 13 May 2013 Augustus Cullen Law succeeded in settling, on an interim award basis, a claim on behalf of a 7 year old little boy who suffered from prolonged, partial asphyxia during labour as a result of failure on behalf of the midwifery and obstetric staff at The Mid-Western Regional Maternity Hospital to recognise the obvious signs of foetal distress demonstrated on the CTG trace. Rather than intervening immediately to perform an emergency Caesarean Section, the attempt to continue inducing labour in the mother was persisted for a number of hours, during which time the infant Plaintiff suffered prolonged partial asphyxia.

After a trial lasting almost 50 days, Augustus Cullen are delighted to have finally achieved justice and proper interim compensation of €2.9m for Eoin Dunne, an eleven year old boy, who suffered catastrophic brain injuries resulting in cerebral palsy as consequence of negligent delay in performing timely resuscitation of him immediately after his birth at the Coombe Hospital in July 2002.
